The Weight Is Over! Getting Healthy with Be Well 365’s Weight Loss Program

Within the past few years, I have noticed my energy level decrease significantly. My workout routines have become relatively nonexistent, and my eating habits usually center on what is least expensive and most convenient. A demanding work schedule and a busy personal life have kept me from focusing on eating healthy and exercising.

The result has been a steady increase in weight gain in addition to a decrease in energy level and increased anxiety, feelings of depression and mood swings. In an attempt to get back to my old happy, healthy self, I signed up for Be Well 365’s Weight Loss Program.

This morning was the first class of the program – the first steps to getting back on track. I learned so many things that I hadn’t known before! During the class, we were walked through basic nutritional information, given an outline of which foods to avoid and which to enjoy and discussed regular exercise routines. We also learned how to read food labels correctly and Dr. Lopez began to outline our diet regimen for the coming weeks.

A Few Things I Didn’t Know

  • An apple contains about 21 grams of carbohydrates.
  • There are such things as ‘good carbs.’
  • Drinking cold water can help boost your metabolism.
  • Every time you cheat on your diet, you are putting yourself behind by about three days!
  • Eat five times a day, not three.

This Week’s Grocery List

I started constructing a rough version of my grocery list for my trip to H-E-B this weekend, which will include but isn’t limited to…

healthy grocery shopping

  • Ground turkey, Lean cut beef
  • Turkey bacon
  • Chicken
  • MooTopia milk
  • String cheese
  • Eggs (Egg whites in addition to a normal carton)
  • Tea
  • Kale, Romaine lettuce, Spinach
  • Almonds, Pistachios
  • Broccoli, Celery, Squash
  • Avocado
  • Lots of water.

Tentative Workout Plan

I have a gym membership, but it has become more of a monthly donation at this point. My goal is to get to the gym at least 2-3 times a week and utilize the equipment and community classes, but to exercise at least 30 minutes per day generally. This may include walks around the River Walk or my neighborhood, swimming, biking and yoga.

I am incredibly excited to begin this new diet program on Monday, May 16. Follow Be Well 365’s blog to monitor my progress every other week. I will be sharing my struggles and my triumphs in the hopes of motivating you to get your life back on track as well.
