During my most recent check in with Dr. Lopez, I learned that I had lost two more pounds! While this doesn’t seem like much, I know the steps in this weight loss process are gradual. Slowly and steadily, I am staying the course and implementing lifestyle changes that will have lasting effects. I have lost a total of about 10 pounds so far, and I couldn’t be more excited for my upcoming progress and results.

I lead a hectic life, as do the majority of us. One ritual I have had a difficult time giving up is my Starbucks in the morning. I regularly swing by the house with the green mermaid in the morning, often times when running late to work, because I need my coffee. As I told Dr. Lopez this, she reminded me that I don’t have to cut out my coffee completely. Boy, was I relieved.

It was a helpful reminder that Be Well 365’s weight loss plan isn’t about giving things up completely, but changing my attitudes toward food and making smarter choices when it comes to what I am consuming. Starbuck drinks generally have a great deal of sugar, so simply using one of their sugar free syrups in a latte is a much better choice. Skim milk is also a must, considering whole milk is high in carbohydrates. With a few simple modifications – I have a much healthier coffee option for my mornings.

In addition to a visibly shrinking waistline, my energy levels have increased tremendously. I find myself walking around the River Walk in downtown San Antonio at least three times a week. I have also taken to swimming! Doing laps later in the evening at my Gold’s Gym pool is a fabulous, low impact way to burn some extra calories. I am looking and feeling better.


Summer Tip

Raspberries, blackberries and strawberries can be eaten in small amounts on a strict low-carb diet.
