Weight Loss Check In And Update

It’s been two weeks since my last check in, and my Be Well 365 weight loss journey is now well underway. Dr. Lopez encouraged us not to step on the scale too often, as that can cause anxiety and isn’t the best indicator of progress, so I will be giving you a run down of my successes and struggles instead of talking solely about a number. Next week I am meeting for my check- in with Dr. Lopez, where I will be weighing in, and I will promptly report back.

Foods I Had A Difficult Time Giving Up

Right after our first weight loss session, I was pumped to begin a new, more healthful way of life. I went to the grocery store the day after the session with a revised grocery list in hand, filled with a variety of meats and veggies. I couldn’t have been more excited. I pick up approved snacks and wholesome ingredients to prepare meals at home.

A few days in, I was still going pretty strong, but I didn’t want to give up milk. I love having big ol’ bowls of Fruit Loops and Frosted Flakes at about 9 p.m. for some reason. I had to slowly learn over the next several days that the sugary foods are comforting for me, but I had to let them go. I picked up H-E-B brand Mootopia, a Dr. Lopez-approved milk product with 50% more protein and 45% less sugar, and it is delicious! I finally was able to cut cereal out last week.

Fruits were my favorite snack before the diet, and I was required to cut those out completely. That has also been a struggle, but I have successful replaced every fruit I used to eat with a vegetable i.e. an apple with a handful of carrots.

I have slipped up a few times this week and had a bagel and a cup of oatmeal for breakfast instead of fat free yogurt. The Be Well weight loss program requires a small number of carbohydrates each week, and I have easily gone over that limit several times.

How The Workout Is Going

Probably the most challenging aspect of the diet is the cardio routine. I should be exercising for at least 30 minutes a day, but I haven’t been able to reach that goal thus far. I cannot seem to get out for more than two or three days in a row. Between a stressful job, hobbies and time spent with friends and family, my cardio routine is suffering.

Thankfully, this week at my job we have implemented periodic exercises throughout the day. Every hour in the afternoon, we have been doing pushups, wall sits, jumping jacks, etc. This relieves stress at work and allows me to get in some of that daily cardio that I have been missing. I am hoping to begin walking and jogging around the River Walk consistently during these next few weeks.

Results So Far

I have noticed a genuine increase in my energy levels and overall improvement of temperament. Because I am eating out less and cooking the majority of my meals at home, I have also realized that this new diet has prompted substantial savings… which is much appreciated!

My jeans are fitting better and I recently was able to wear an older dress and felt incredibly confident… so far, I’d say I am loving the results that I am seeing and I can’t wait for my check in with Dr. Lopez!
