The “True” Cost of Obesity
While it’s common knowledge that obesity is an epidemic effecting millions of Americans, what you may not know is that Texas ranks even higher than the national average in many categories determining obesity. In fact:
- In 2009, Texas had the unfortunate distinction of having 66.7% of it’s adult population classified as overweight or obese.
- Nearly 20% of Texas youth 10-17 are obese. This ties Texas with Louisiana at number 7 in the nation.
- If current healthcare trends continue, obesity will cost Texas businesses nearly 30 billion dollars by the year 2030.
